    About

    WE MEET EVERY TUESDAY!

Hi! We want this reading group to function as lo-fi interdisciplinary education forum based in living rooms and parks rather than the traditional structures of the ivory tower. The reason for forming this reading group is to create a space for people to come together and critically engage with texts that we find interesting and are related to queer theory.

QTRG is here to facilitate conversations between people with interests in fields like feminist theory, critical race and whiteness studies, post-colonial theory, decolonial critique, trans* studies, disability studies, diaspora studies, religion, gender studies, queer/gay/lez theory, activism and social movements, indigenous studies, critical urban studies, contemporary art and theory, visual culture, linguistics, critical anthropology, philosophy, science, +++

**QTRG welcomes people from non-academic as well as academic backgrounds, everyone is welcome to come chat at the table!** This group is not intended to be a queer theory 101 crash course, but it’s also open to anyone who feels particularly interested in reading and discussing.

We meet every Tuesday from 7:30 – 9:30pm. Every week we read a new text. No books, just selected articles, essays, or chapters (the syllabus is open to edits/collaboration/critique), because let’s be real: no one has time to read a whole book in a week. Plus, we mainly want to be able to read and digest the texts every week so that our conversations IRL are engaging and informed.

Keep in mind that we’re all coming to this group with the intent of learning, so do the readings and be on time. Otherwise just go straight to moebel olfe and we’ll meet you there afterwards.

QTRG is a noncommittal group, you can come one week and not come the next. Walk-ins always welcome. The main point is to read, come together, sip tea/wine/beer/water (it’s BYOB for the most part — feel free to bring snacks, drinks, bake!), have cool conversations, learn something new, make a friend or two and build community.

The readings will be uploaded online every week. You don’t need to buy any books or texts! Just have a screen to download them onto, and if you feel like it, a place to print them out (reach out if you need a printer).

Often we meet in a place where there is no step free access (5th floor). If step free access is required, please let QTRG know and we can happily arrange to meet in one of our other beloved locations.

QTRG critically tries to create and host an anti-racist, pro-femme, pro-fat, pro-black and qtbpoc, anti-misogynist (gay included), gender flux, anti-islamophobic, multi-lingual, pro-queer-bi-lez, dyke, butch + queer inclined gathering. Of course QTRG cannot guarantee this, but please be in touch if you have concerns.

    x INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! x
